The Gallery is also home to Julia's workshop and you can see her working on one of her bowls during your visit before browsing around the gallery.
Julia designs and decorates handblown 24% lead crystal bowls in jewel like colours with unique patterns which she sketches and then sandblasts into the surface of the glass. Drawing her inspiration from nature and especailly the sea Julia's patterns include fish, flowers, butterflies and dragonflies amongst many others.
Julia also produces one-off sculptural forms with delicate images over swathes of colour, these are Julia's favourite pieces so there is always a good selection in the Gallery.
Alongside and complimenting Julia's own work we sell work by some of the most talented glass makers in the North and Scottish Borders.
Jane Charles blows wonderful contemporary pieces in mouth watering colours from her Newcastle Studio. Her perfume bottles, vases and paperweights and bowls are avidly collected across Brittain. We are also lucky enough to be able to exhibit Janes sculptural work from time to time.
Julia and Jane have been working together for over 25 years, often collaborating on pieces and exhibiting together.
Sanders and Wallace from Pateley Bridge use traditional English glassmaking techniques and recycled glass to produce a broad and diverse range of drinking glasses, paperweights, vases and perfume bottles.
A recent addition to the gallery is Thomas Petit, who also blows his vases and bottles in colourful lead crystal. Many of his elegant pieces are inspired by sea and shore and where they meet.
As well as blown crystal the gallery has a wide range of gorgeous glass jewellery.
Connell and Hart, with whom Julia did her glass degree in Sunderland, make earings and pendants in a rainbow of colours; their teardrop earrings are always popular. They use an ancient technique called Pate de Verre where tiny grains of crystal glass are fused together in a mold to form the piece; this allows them to create complicated tones within colours and delicate textures. They also make lovely clocks in the same way.
A glass gallery wouldn't be complete without stained and leaded panels and we stock work by Julia Davies. Julia makes stained glass panels with designs ranging from the Berwick lighthouse to ginger cats, from pheasants to frogs . Her exquiste painting and eye for detail make these pieces really special.
