Maggie and Gordon extend a warm, friendly welcome to the 4 star Highfield Guest House, built in 1883 as a family home and retaining many original features.
The property is located in the Newington District, close to Edinburgh University (King's Buildings) and a short bus journey to the many attractions this beautiful Capital city has to offer.
Your hosts will do their best to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible; offering advice on how to get the most from your visit whether you are on business or on holiday.
There are 5 bedrooms all pleasantly decorated with 4 rooms en-suite - 2 double, 1 twin and 1 family room which has 1 double and 2 single beds. There is 1 single room with a separate private shower room. Each room has a television, radio alarm, hairdryer and wi-fi throughout. Towels, toiletries and a hospitality tray are also provided. An excellent breakfast menu is offered which includes a vegetarian option.
There are several quality Restaurants and Bars in the vicinity of the Guest House offering a varied choice of menu.
Getting here by Road
Follow the road signs for the City Bypass south (A720) and continue on the City Bypass taking the exit at Straiton Junction. Follow the A701 into the City Centre and at the bottom of Liberton Brae take the left hand fork onto Mayfield Road. Go through the traffic lights at the University Buildings and we are situated on the right hand side before the pelican crossing.
Transport
From the nearest information centre:- From the Tourist Information Centre on Princes Street, make your way to the Art Galleries at the Mound (off Princes Street, across from Hanover Street) and take the LRT Bus 42 (bus stop is on the Gallery side) and ask the Bus Driver to let you off at the bus stop past Mayfield Church on Mayfield Road. The bus stop is just beyond the Highfield Guest House.
Getting there by railway:- From the Edinburgh Waverley Station make your way to Waverley Bridge and take the LRT Bus 42 (bus stop is outside Jummy Cheung's restaurant)and ask the Bus Driver to let you off at the bus stop past Mayfield Church on Mayfield Road. The bus stop is just beyond the Highfield Guest House. Alternatively make your way to North Bridge, cross the road and take LRT Buses No 3, 7, 8 29, 31, 37, 49 to Mayfield Gardens. Ask the bus driver to let you off the bus at the Royal School for the Blind. Cross the road and walk along East Savile Road, then West Savile Road until you reach Mayfield Road (approx. 5 minutes). Take a right turn and the Highfield Guest House is beyond the bus stop on the right hand side.
Getting there by aeroplane:- From Edinburgh Airport follow the road signs for the City Bypass south (A720) and continue on the City Bypass taking the exit at Straiton Junction. There is also an Airport shuttle bus to Princes Street. From there go to the Art Gallery at the Mound and take the No 42 bus (the bus stop is on the Gallery side) and ask the bus driver to let you off at the bus stop past Mayfield Church on Mayfield Road. The Highfield Guest House is situated just before the bus stop on the left hand side.
Getting there by ferry:- From Rosyth ferry terminal, cross the Forth Road Bridge and head onto the City Bypass south and take the exit at Straiton junction. Follow the A701 into the City centre to the bottom of Liberton Brae. Take the left hand fork onto Mayfield Road and go through the traffic lights at the University Buildings. The Highfield Guest House is situated on the right hand side, before the Pelican Crossing.
