The hostess, an artist and a descendant of John Ruskin, has painted decorative friezes in the elegant, high-ceilinged bedrooms; William Morris fabrics adorn eye-catching oversized headboards. Down stone steps, a separate entrance leads to two rooms (one with a private garden) that share a lounge and a kitchen. Served on linen-dressed tables, breakfast includes home-baked bread and Aussie pancakes. The hosts have a wealth of local information; buses and taxis easily connect the conservation neighbourhood to the city centre.
Breakfast is an occasion each morning, set in a stunning fully renovated dining room. Many specialty dishes are on offer, all featuring the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients. From freshly delivered award winning farm eggs, Macsween's Haggis and homemade treats all over the continental buffet. You are served by the host and hostess who are full of energy and attention to detail to make sure your every need is catered to.

Arthur’s Seat, the largest hill in Holyrood Park, is 5 minutes’ drive away. Craigmillar Castle, Scotland’s most intact castle ruin and most recently lived in castle, is only 7 minutes’ drive away.
Located on one of the main bus routes into the city, Edinburgh’s cobbled Royal Mile can be reached after a 10-minute bus ride. The Palace of Holyrood House is within 2 miles of Barony House. Edinburgh Waverley Rail Station is a 5-minute taxi journey away, using the magic Taxi Butler service in the Hotel Lobby.
Built in 1887, Barony House has been lovingly decorated by the very talented hostess by her own hand, in honour of her famous ancestor – John Ruskin. John Ruskin, with Turner were pioneers of the Arts and Crafts movement where Susan has taken inspiration for some of her designs. Susan hand-made the bed heads for all the rooms and designed and hand painted a frieze in some of the rooms, sympathetic to the Arts and Crafts era. There is common lounge access and an Honesty Bar set in a traditional club room design. The latest technology SMART TV's and welcome tray featuring tea and coffee etc are provided in each of Barony House's light and airy rooms, all designed to a very high standard. Toiletries and a hairdryer are also included. All rooms have an en suite bathroom.
Free high speed Wi-Fi can be accessed throughout the property.
TIP: Look out for the hostess's Manic Mugs. Hand designed and hand painted. During your stay, you can use them for your tea and coffee. You can also purchase a new one on the way out as a souvenir of your stay.
