Applegarth House Cottages
Ideal for a couple with dogs, Applegarth has two luxury barn conversion 1 bedroom cottages. Situated on the ancient seat of the Clan Jardine, both are furnished and decorated to a very high standard. Fishing, golf and lovely walks nearby.
The kitchen has a fridge freezer, split oven with microwave and ceramic hob, a slimline dishwasher and a condenser washer/dryer. A large dryer and drying line are in the garage if extra drying is needed. We also provide a Nespresso capsule coffee machine with milk frother. The kitchen is fully equipped for all your needs.
In each, there is a small vestibule off the living room which leads onto an immaculately designed wet room with a feature river stone floor. There is a loo and basin and a powerful drenching rain shower. Fluffy white towels hang on the heated towel rail. Next door is a double bedroom with a fabulously comfortable king size bed made up with crisp Egyptian cotton sheets.
There is a step up to the beautiful private paved terrace on the West side.
Both are disabled friendly and easily accessible to the spacious wet room. Likewise easy access from the entrance front door into the living room. There is a step up to the patio outside on the west side. A ramp can be provided. Solar panels and an air source heat pump provide underfloor heating, hot water and electricity.
Byre & Stable are dog friendly, but we ask that dogs do not go on any of the furniture. There is a £20 charge for one dog and £10 for a second.
A parking area is immediately in front of the cottages with a 7.4 kw EV charger for each.

We have a lockable storage shed for bikes and there are also bicycles for hire.
Walks, with a view
Grey Mare’s Tail is just a 20 minute drive from us in the Moffat hills. It’s best known for its magnificent waterfall – the fifth highest in the UK – and uniquely dramatic scenery.
Applegarth is also situated on the Annandale Way which has been designated by Scotland heritage as one of Scotland’s great trails. The River Annan starts in the hills of Moffat and meanders 90 kilometers (56 miles) down to the small town of Annan and the Solway Firth. This is a beautiful and varied walk. Walkers can take 4-5 days to follow the trail.
Dumfriesshire is a gold mine of lovely walks and all very different. Other than walking the valley of the Annan, you can walk the Galloway hills or the coastal routes around the Solway.
Should you get wet, we have a perfect drying room.
Fishing…on the Annan
Applegarth House is, as you might expect, handily situated on the banks of the Applegarth Beat on the River Annan. Our fishing guests love the fact that they can take a short stroll to flick a fly.
The Annan has always been regarded as an excellent Salmon and Sea Trout river. As is the case with all Scottish rivers, the numbers have declined. However, there is still every chance to catch these fabulous fish. Countering this wane of Salmon and Sea Trout, The Annan is seeing an exciting resurgence of Brown Trout (some as big as 4-5 lbs) and Grayling.
The 64 km (nearly 40 miles) length of the Annan offers a wide variety of beats in beautiful countryside. We can arrange a local guide for the Applegarth Beat and guides elsewhere – see link below.
Fishing…on Castle Loch
Castle Loch is Scotland’s leading specimen coarse fishery and is located in a serene nature reserve.
It boasts some of the UKs best bream, carp, tench and pike fishing. (958)
The lochs’ wildlife and scenery are outstanding and a superb venue for bird watching. There is a path allowing people to walk the full way round the loch.
The fishery has a team of fully qualified professional Angling Coaches.
