The last time we played An Lanntair was March 2020, (the last gig before lockdown!!)
Graham Maciver is the Bensider, performing original material.
Bensider is a collective of talented musicians that formed around Graham to help bring his songs to life.
Much of the material is inspired by Graham’s upbringing on the Isle of Lewis, coming late to music and songwriting he wrote his first song at the age of 42 and they just keep coming as he approaches his 60th year.
Alongside Graham, (lead vocals/guitar), are Roy Hunter, (double bass), Libby McGugan, (fiddle), Mike Munro, (trumpet) and Seth Gardener, (percussion)
Bensider music is hard to categorise and is influenced by many genres but is probably best described as acoustic, swingy folk with a dark edge.
Review of Bensider from a recent charity gig for Alzheimer Scotland at Stereo Glasgow:
“After two (great) solo acts it was good to see a full band take to the stage next and what a joy they turned out to be. Yet more Scottish, Americana but with songs brand new to my ears but sounding like I’ve heard them 100 times before and a trumpet player I could listen to solo all night long (now there’s something I never thought I would ever say)”
