Visit Artist and Ceramicist Sue Blair at her studio Borgh Pottery in Fivepenny, Borgh. Sue will talk to the group about her creative background and current work, and give insights into her practices. Enjoy a browse in the pottery and established garden. There will be plenty of time for questions and a cup of tea or coffee.
Sue Blair has been a ceramicist since establishing the business with her late husband Alex, as Stornoway Pottery in 1974, moving to Borgh in 1978. Its critical, commercial success, and longevity is a testimony to the enduring quality of her work. In the 90s Sue enrolled at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen as a mature student, elevating her horizons and the depth and range of her work. On graduating it resulted in Pàrras (Paradise), an ambitious, interior garden installation with a ceramic fountain as a centrepiece, held at An Lanntair.
The Borgh Pottery garden is going to be featured on Lios Mhairi/Mairi’s Hebridean Garden on BBC Alba at 8.30 pm on the 9th April.
The pottery is situated 18 miles north-west of Stornoway on the A857 to Ness (Nis). The journey takes approximately 25 minutes by car and parking is available.
40 ÷ 40 is a retrospective exhibition of artwork by forty artists who have been significant to An Lanntair as we celebrate forty years. Sue Blair’s artwork in 40 ÷ 40 is Stac Mara: Sea Stack, 2023.
