The Dower House Isle of Islay
The Dower House is set in isolated beauty on the edge of the sea, surrounded by mystical ancient forest. We offer half the house as luxury self-catering accommodation for eight people. Next door we have a ground floor, fully disabled friendly apartment for two, with the optional addition of a small double room upstairs.

The Dower House is six miles from Port Ellen, on the road passing Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg distilleries that ends in the hills at Ardtalla. Set on the edge of the sea, sheltered and surrounded by mystical ancient woodland, overlooked by Cnoc Rhoanastil (the Fairy Hill), where legend has it the queen of the fairies lives. Red, Fallow and Roe deer, common seals, eagles, other numerous birds and occasional otters can be seen throughout the year.
The Dower House offers peace, warmth and inspiration as well as outstanding sea views across the Skerries to Kintyre and the Isle of Arran. Tranquillity and light, with freedom and helpful hospitality from Mary-Ann and Nick on site when needed.
We are disabled friendly and welcome wheelchair users.
We have ample off road parking in front of the house, as well as a large flat paved terrace with pathway and ramps circling the house. A wild, communal garden leading down to a sheltered natural beach with a stream/burn. Ideal for canoeing, snorkelling and swimming, for the more hardy, or just sitting and admiring the stunning view.
Free WiFi, but mobile phone signals are not reliable on Islay.

Semi-Detached, Self-Catering Luxury House

£900 – £1,250 per week (£1,600 Feis Ile, 26th May - 3rd June, 2017)
Central heating throughout.
2 double bedrooms, each with large en-suite shower bathrooms.
1 double + 1 twin room with bunk beds, sharing large luxurious bathroom with bath and large airing cupboard. Hand shower on bath taps.
Large bespoke kitchen with large, 5 hotplate, electric cooker, dishwasher, breakfast bar and table seating 8, beautiful oak staircase and floors, brick built fireplace with wood burner, looking out on sea and forest views.
Utility room with back door leading to the terrace. Sink, washing machine and tumble drier leading to 4th bathroom with shower.
Front porch opens to a large lounge with wood burner, comfortable sofas, television and a glazed door opening onto walled terrace, overlooking the sea.
Ground floor is wheelchair friendly, but shower room has step into shower.

Entered through South end porch, shared access with main house.
1 double bed with wheelchair access. Low level cupboard with clothes rail.
Additional sofa bed, small double.
Table and chairs with book shelves and wall mounted television.
Wet room with static, quality, shower seat plus wall grab handles with drop down rail by toilet and heated towel rail.
Small galley kitchen with low level combination oven/microwave.
Also hotplate, kettle, toaster and small fridge. Access to washing machine and drier on request.
Fully glazed door, overlooking the sea, to wheelchair friendly terrace.
Paths and ramp access round the house.
With Additional Small Double Bedroom
£30 - £40 per person per night
Upstairs with stunning sea views, hand basin and wood burner.
Bathroom, with bath, shared with 1 other bedroom.
No kitchen access, but can be used in combination with other lets.

Mary-Ann is a qualified teacher of all ages and Reiki Practitioner
We offer guided wildlife walks with photography, art and craft sessions. Also practical art sessions on the beach (or inside if wet) with children over 5 years old to give Mum and Dad a break! £25 per person per hour, family and group discounts on request.
We can also arrange kayak trips with an instructor and also local boat trips to see the beauty of Islay from a different perspective.
