Dryburgh Steading One
Four fabulous newly-renovated farm steadings beside the River Tweed with the beguiling town of Melrose close by. A peaceful spot to relax and enjoy historic views.
We are thrilled to announce the launch of Dryburgh Steadings; four freshly renovated holiday homes designed around an attractive courtyard and encircled by gardens and dry-stone walls. Created from restored, soft pink sandstone and sage green painted weatherboarding, the hamlet sits at the end of a no-through lane in a tranquil spot on the banks of the River Tweed.
Three of the four Steadings cottages feature enclosed private gardens, in addition to which they all enjoy communal use of the large lawned area, which wraps around the development and stretches to the hillock upon which the Temple of the Muses sits. Sleeping between four and six guests with two to three bathrooms, each Dryburgh Steading has its own distinct charm and benefits while sharing the same high-end finish and contemporary design.
The first floor of Dryburgh Steading One comprises two large en-suite bedrooms while the ground floor delivers a cosy snug, a cloakroom with shower, and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. The living room features a door leading out to a patio on the enclosed garden, which runs the length of the house and comes complete with outdoor furniture and a gas barbecue.
Once you’ve acquainted yourself with your immaculately presented holiday home, you can discover all that’s on the Dryburgh doorstep. The ancient Temple of the Muses, an Ionic-inspired temple dedicated to the poet and playwright James Thomson, who penned the lyrics of Rule Britannia, sits virtually in the back garden of the Dryburgh Steadings. Just across from the Temple dangles the Dryburgh Suspension Bridge – built in 1872, the bridge is a replacement for Britain’s first ever chain bridge, constructed in 1817, and safely transports walkers across the river towards St Boswells. Remaining on the east side of the river, a five-minute stroll takes you to the ruins of Dryburgh Abbey, the evocative resting place of Sir Walter Scott while the magnificent statue of Sir William Wallace peers over the mature trees surrounding the Steadings from a neighbouring hillside.
Other local highlights include the adjacent Dryburgh Abbey Hotel, which is a good spot for meals or drinks, the beguiling town of Melrose, Sir Walter Scott’s home at Abbotsford and Scott’s View, a celebrated spot from which to admire the magnificent undulating Borders’ countryside unfurl below.
As with each of the Steadings properties, Dryburgh Steading One is equipped with quality kitchen equipment, luxurious bed linen and towels, waffle bath robes, televisions, and a quick and easy first night welcome hamper of pasta and other goodies. Dogs are welcome and there is a hose pipe outside to clean dogs after walking.
