The Atholl Palace Museum, set in the old servant’s wing, charts the history of the Atholl Palace Hotel from when it first opened as a Hydropathic establishment in 1878 through to its reopening after World War II and beyond. There are tales of bankruptcy, colourful entrepreneurs, Victorian servant’s, unusual and torturous spa treatments, renovations, and war time evacuees turning hotel to school. Audio dramas, a Minecraft educational resource, short film, tactile room settings, games area and interpretation boards packed with insights and photographs will intrigue visitors of all ages.

Start your journey in our rail carriage like many Victorians did, look inside the doctor’s cupboards, light up the wine cellar and dress up as a hotel servant in what was an original bedroom sleeping six servants. Listen to the dramas unfold and enjoy an array of photographs from the hotel's archive.

An entertaining 23 minute film charts the story of the Atholl Palace celebrating those who built, worked and visited the hotel. It includes original footage made by the Leys School Film Society during their time at the hotel in the 1940s.
There's an interpretation board for those with an appreciation of Andrew Heiton Jr., a prolific Perthshire architect, who not only designed the Atholl Palace hotel but also shaped the character and style of Scottish Baronial architecture across Perthshire.

The Atholl Palace Museum is only museum in Scotland to celebrate the social history of a hotel and in 2005 when it first opened it was the first of its kind in the UK.
This self guided museum is open daily, free for children under 16, tickets are available at £3 per adult at the Atholl Palace Hotel reception.
While you are visiting the museum, take time to enjoy the awarding winning gardens, abundant with wildlife, flowers, specimen trees, playground and walks. You may also want to take afternoon tea in the lounge or have a light lunch in the Stag's Head bar.
