The Ulbster Arms Hotel sits on the banks of the River Thurso, in the village of Halkirk. Our traditional Highland hotel exudes 19th-century charm, with traditional log fires and a host of charming rooms. While our lodges offer the same comfortable surroundings but with a more contemporary feel. Our hotel and lodges offer the perfect accommodation for exploring the wonders of Caithness and Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands.
We’ve got a range of hotel accommodation options at the Ulbster Arms Hotel and Lodges in Caithness, Scotland. All are available on a bed-and-breakfast basis. Whether you’re travelling the NC500 or looking for the perfect place for your next staycation, our hotel and lodges should be top of your list. You’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep and a hearty meal, plus our location makes this the ideal jumping-off point for exploring everything Caithness and Sutherland have to offer.
Our main hotel building has 13 ensuite bedrooms, many of which overlook the River Thurso or Halkirk Church and clock tower. This is our traditional Scottish hotel offering, located in a beautiful 19th-century building. We also have 3 lodges on the grounds, which offer an additional 16 hotel rooms with contemporary interiors. All rooms include breakfast as standard, served in the main hotel building. Breakfast is the full Scottish number, as well as fresh fruit, juice, yoghurt and cereal. We have a private car park located to the rear of the hotel, free for all guests.
Lunch served from 12:00 until 14:00. Dinner served from 16:00 until 20:30.
Relax and enjoy our latest seasonal menu and daily specials in the traditional comfort of our Lounge Bar, which features a beautifully carved fireplace from a Dutch galleon ship. This offers a more relaxed and family-friendly alternative to our Beat 4 restaurant, with the same high quality, locally-sourced ingredients and excellent service. It's a welcome retreat from the crisp outdoors in autumn and winter with its roaring fire and cosy booth seating. Spread over a couple of levels, you can find the perfect spot in which to enjoy your meal.
