Hotel Eilean Iarmain
Built in 1888, Hotel Eilean Iarmain is an enchanting, privately owned hotel of unique charm and character, providing Highland hospitality in a stunning setting.
It is situated in a most picturesque location with its own stone pier, and has expansive views across The Sound of Sleat to the mainland hills in Knoydart. There are spectacular views to Isle Ornsay lighthouse, built by Robert Louis Stevenson's Grandfather.
People have been coming here for over a hundred years, drawn by the landscape of this Hebridean Island, its geology, botany, ornithology, history, Gaelic language and culture. Writers and historians, poets and artists come for inspiration and knowledge. Others come for the peace of the hills and the sea.
We are open all year, enabling visitors to experience Skye in all seasons. Autumn and Winter can be particularly cosy, when sunlit days make long shadows on the hills, and there are relaxing evenings by log fires, sometimes with music, or with a dram of local whisky and a good book,
Trout fishing, wildlife walks, stalking and shooting can be arranged in advance.
The Gaelic language is a big part of our identity and quite a few of the staff are fluent speakers.
We welcome music sessions and also frequently have live music either on a Friday or Saturday evening at about 9-9.30pm, after food service in the Pràban Bar.
We have 3 areas of accommodation: the Main House with 6 en-suite bedrooms, the Garden House with 6 en-suite bedrooms and The Steading which has 4 suites, each with their own sitting room, bathroom downstairs, and bedroom upstairs. One of the suites also has a single bedroom downstairs.
Our policy is to keep the old fashioned character of the hotel intact, in order to retain its Highland charm and old world atmosphere.
The rooms are decorated in cotton and linen chintzes, with traditional furniture.
There are log fires in the sitting room, dining room and in the bar. Candlelit dinners can be enjoyed in the dining room or conservatory, with views to the lighthouse and the bay.

Directions
From the nearest information centre:- From the Skye Bridge direction, turn right at the roundabout, then drive approx 7miles to the signs for Armadale and Sabhal Mor Ostaig at the x roads and turn left, to the A851, drive about 7 miles to the signs for Camuscross/Isle Ornsay, turn left, and we are at the end of the road at the harbour.
From Armadale Ferry Terminal, drive along the A851 for about 7 miles, 15 mins to the signs for Camuscross/Isle Ornsay, turn right and we are at the end of the road by the harbour.
Getting there by railway:- There are two railway stations near the hotel.
Mallaig train station which is across the water on the mainland. You will need to take the Caledonian Macbrayne ferry from Mallaig to Armadale, the crossing takes about 30 minutes. There is a local bus service from Armadale with a drop off point 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Taxis can also be arranged from Armadale ferry terminal.
Kyle of Lochalsh is across on the mainland. The best way to travel from this station would be to take a taxi, journdy time will be about 20 mins.
Getting there by aeroplane:- Inverness airport is our nearest airport. It has several flights a day arriving in from all over the UK. It is located 7 miles outside Inverness City Centre. It has car hire facilities or a shuttle bus to Inverness Town.
