Shieldhill Castle is located near Biggar, South Lanarkshire. A short journey away from both Glasgow and Edinburgh, nestled in the beautiful Scottish countryside.
We are exceptionally proud of the Castle’s history and heritage, which goes back to the 12th Century; Shieldhill Castle is known to have links with Mary Queen of Scots and William Wallace. With some remarkable transformations, our team has enhanced the natural beauty of the 12th Century Castle. Classical original features remain evident within the Castle, with new luxurious touches to complement the architecture creating a charming and romantic setting. Making Shieldhill Castle the perfect location for every occasion, or simply for a meal or snack. The team have been at pains to protect the Castle’s heritage, working with local craftsmen to restore and renovate the interior completely. Surrounded by immaculately kept grounds, it has been designed to ensure that despite the grandeur, everyone feels at home, a place to call theirs for a few days and to make very special memories.
Suitable for weddings, special birthdays, anniversaries, engagement parties, corporate events, charity fundraisers, product launches and bespoke team-building events, the Castle is taking bookings for 2023 and beyond. The Castle boasts an array of reception rooms, a large marquee, a romantic folly, acres of lawns and our very own private Chapel, which can be used in a number of ways throughout your day to create a unique and special day for all. Picturesque wedding ceremonies can take place in the Castle’s 16th-century Chapel. A staple of Scottish tradition and family heritage, this quaint space allows you to exchange vows in front of 100 seated guests. Whether religious or not, this striking Chapel adds an extra enchantment to your big day.
After your ceremony, you and your guests will make your way to enjoy delicious food and drink. More informal dinners can take place in the Alexander Room with our Intimate Wedding Package starting from £2500 for 25 guests. Complete with large bay windows and panoramic views of the Castle grounds, you and your guests can mingle and admire the gorgeous surroundings in an intimate setting.
For Weddings with over 30 guests, the Wedding Breakfast and Reception would take place in the expansive marquee. With ample space for 120 seated guests, a dance floor, and a stage to have live entertainment or a DJ, you and your guests can dance the night away under the light canopy's fairy lights. After your celebrations, you the newlywed can retire to the executive Chancellor Suite. Featuring an in room hot tub and views of the grade two listed gardens. This gorgeous room offers both relaxation and sophistication. What’s more, there are an additional 15 rooms within the hotel, 4 Scandinavian Lodges and 10 Courtyard Rooms, perfect for families with our conjoined rooms and to have your guests on the grounds for an overnight stay.
