The cottage has large kitchen dining room and large living room with bay window looking out to the sea. It has fantastic all round views of the area and surronding islands. Fully central heated well equipped cottage, has been awarded 4 star by VisitScotland. Ample parking.
The island of South Uist is approx 22 miles x 7 miles. Along the west coast of the island are beautiful sandy beaches running continually the whole length of the island bordering the beach is the rare machair land with its fantastic display of flowers during the Spring and Summer months, the crofter plouge this arable land to grow potatoes and vegetables for their own use and corn for their animals.
The east side of the island is for the more energetic with its many hills and sea loch inlets. Ben Mor, reaching just over 2000 ft in height, gives you fantastic all round veiws. A great chance to see St Kilda, 40 miles Northwest of the Uists on a clear day. In those hills and lochs the wild life is in abundance with deer, eagles, owls, henharriers ,grouse, otters, etc. A camera to hand is a must. There are causeways linking the chain of islands together, making it possible to visit and explore the islands of Eriskay, Benbecula, North Uist, Berneray, Grimsay, and Baleshare. A day trip by ferry is possible to the Island of Barra. Vatersay is a 30 min ferry crossing and Harris and Lewis Scalpay is a one hour ferry crossing. In the Summer months day trips to St Kilda and Mingulay are possible.
There is a lovelyiInn by the sea edge a five minute walk from the cottage (Polachar Inn) which offers refreshments, meals and snacks.
Shops: The Co-Op is in Daliburgh which is four miles from the cottage. This should meet all your needs. There is also a Post Office here and the Borrodale Hotel, chip shop, petrol station and a doctors surgery.
The ferry port of Lochboisdale is nine miles away. There is a bank here with a cash dispenser (Royal Bank Of Scotland), Visit Scotland Information Centre, Lochboisdale Hotel, butchers shop, Post Office, internet cafe/cafe with snacks and home baking), dentist, garage/petrol station, Laing garage/Car hire tel 01878700267.
