Edinburgh Printmakers is a creative hub for printmaking and the visual arts in the Fountainbridge area of Edinburgh.
It has a large light-filled printmaking studio running courses and workshops Courses & Workshops | Edinburgh Printmakers, two galleries Exhibitions and Viewing Rooms | Edinburgh Printmakers, a shop selling original prints and handmade products Shop | Edinburgh Printmakers, venue hire space for meetings, events Venue Hire | Edinburgh Printmakers or learning activities, a café, a courtyard, and community garden Cafe: Holy Cow Lounge & Garden | Edinburgh Printmakers.
The printmaking studio is open to anyone who would like to join one of our courses or become a member. It was established in 1967 as the first open-access studio in Britain and is one of the largest in Europe. Set in Castle Mills, a beautiful heritage building that used to be a rubber factory and brewery complex, Edinburgh Printmakers provides a creative atmosphere for the local community as well as visitors.
Our mission is to create and support artistic excellence in the medium of print through inspiration, education, innovation and facilitation. We work at the cutting edge of contemporary visual art, producing critically acclaimed and engaging artwork that is key to the cultural life of Scotland. Hosting year-round programme of exhibitions and associated events, Edinburgh Printmakers showcases the work of leading international and Scottish artists.
Our Summer Printmaking Courses for 2024 are now live!
Edinburgh Printmakers’ popular Summer Courses take place over 3 or 4 days, for an extended and comprehensive introduction to fine art printmaking processes. These are a great way to create some beautiful art prints and meet like-minded creative people.
Processes you can learn include screenprinting, etching, relief printing, and the protected heritage craft of stone lithography.
All courses are suitable for complete beginners, and completion of any of these courses entitles you to a free 4-month Associate Membership in our printmaking studio, so that you can expand on what you’ve learned.

When you book onto a summer course, you can also get a discount for our onsite apartment at Castle Mills around your time in the studio. We also partner with StayCity Aparthotels and can offer preferred rates to those joining a course over the summer.
