For nature lovers early Spring sees the return to the pond of hundreds of frogs making their way to where they were brought up. Returning home on a dark March night can be la bit of an obstacle course dodging these frogs heading to the pond – I’m sure they must have sat nav?!! Late Spring sees the meadow pond at Brinkies Guest House full of Frog Spawn and eventually thousands of Tadpoles turn into Common Frogs. A pair of Mallard Ducks return every year and in June/July their healthy brood use the pond as their favourite play area. The short eared Owl is often seen in the evening on the hunt for its supper. An elegant Grey Heron also frequents the pond at various times throughout the year. With many species of flowers within walking distance, it’s a botanist’s paradise. For the photographer there is an array of subject matter.
Orkneys Brown Trout Fishing is one of the finest in Britain, with lochs easy to access, and free! There are 7 main lochs and the Brown Trout Season runs from the 15th March to the 6th October for more information visit: www.orkneytroutfishingassociation.co.uk
The main attraction for visitors to Orkney is its ancient history. From the Stone age to the Picts and Vikings the island The have so many sites of archeological interest. If you want to see prehistoric villages, ancient tombs, ruined palaces and standing stones, then this is the place to come. Orkney is also recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. There is a saying “if you scratch the soil on Orkney it bleeds archeology".

The heart of Neolithic Orkney is a short drive from the B&B, where you can visit Skara Brae, Maeshowe, Ring of Brodgar and Standing Stones of Stenness . A further drive of 15 mins will take you to the Brough of Birsay , Broch of Gurness and Earls Palace Birsay.
Orkney's capital Kirkwall, is a 30 min drive from the property, where you can visit Earls & Bishops Palaces Kirkwall , St Magnus Cathedral (St Magnus Cathedral tour times ), Orkney Museum, Highland Park Distillery and Scapa Distillery , to name a few of the attractions in town. There are many eateries, pubs, cafes also in Kirkwall, you can find out more here . If the weather isn't too kind, The Pickaquoy Centre offers excellent indoor facilities such as a swimming pool, cinema, various exercise classes and kids entertainment.
