Skye Cullin Ridge Guided Traverse
Join us for our guided traverse of the Skye Cullin Ridge, one of the most sought-after and memorable mountaineering challenges in the UK. With over 13,000ft of ascent across complex, exposed and testing terrain.
Course Outline
Due to the variety of weather conditions encountered in Scotland this course is run with a conditions based approach, meaning that your instructor/guide will use the best of conditions to maximise safety, your learning and overall experience throughout your course. Below is a sample itinerary.
Day 1 Getting to grips with the ridge
If conditions allow, we spend the day heading onto the ridge to assess where we are in terms of movement and speed across some technical terrain, if possible we will stash some bivy equipment to go light on the main traverse. We chat through the next day, pack bags and recheck forecasts, hopefully to have a sharp start if the weather allows.
Day 2 Day one of the traverse 9 - 11 hours
We plan to start at the southern end of Glen Brittle, heading towards Coir' a' Ghrunnda, drop bags when we get onto the ridge to take in the summit of Sgurr nan Eag, we then continue along thew ridge taking in the summits of the Dubh, Alasdair, Mhic Chonnish before tackling the infamous Inn Pinn. After abseiling off the end of 'the pinn' we make head way towards Banachdich to get our heads down for the night after some water collection for the morning and some dinner. And fingers crossed for a stunning sunset over the Outer Hebrides.
Day 3 Day two of the traverse 8 - 10 hours
An early start to keep time on our side, a quick breakfast and brew we get packed up and start the northern end of the ridge. Some of the most exposed, absorbing sections of scrambling come in the early parts of the day, taking in the summits of Ghreadaidh, Mhadaidh, before continuing over to the easiest summit of Bruach na Frithe. The end is nearing with only Am Basteir and Gillian left, with weary legs we retrace our steps back to bastier corie where we start to descend to the Sligachan Hotel for a well deserved refreshment and calorie intake!
