Perth Eurowalk
Free self-guided online walking tour of Perth. Discover some of the historic European links in this city that sits on the River Tay and is known as the "Gateway to the Highlands".
Visit our website on your mobile device, follow the directions given for the route round the town, tour the main landmarks and learn about their many historic and contemporary associations with other parts of Europe.
The 4 to 5 km walk has a starting point at Perth Prison on the South Inch and finishes up at St John's Kirk in the town centre.
On the walk you will explore Perth's:
- history of trading links with the European continent
- twin towns in Germany and Poland
- long standing historical links with Poland
- connection to the Auld Alliance with France
- Fair Maid story and how it inspired an opera by the French composer Bizet
- link to the historian R.W. Seton-Watson and find out why he is held in high regard in countries such as Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Romania
- And much more!
The entire walk is approximately 4 to 5 kilometres long. There will be some cobbles, pavements and steps on the route but it does not have many uphill or downhill sections. Be aware that part of the walk overlooks the River Tay so please ensure all attendees are aware of this and take precautions. It is possible to commence the tour at any point to suit your circumstances.
Walk at your own pace, enjoy the surroundings and stop for refreshments along the route.
[Please note that this self-guided tour, entirely along public footpaths, is undertaken at your own risk.]
