Aigas Wildlife
The award-winning and internationally-acclaimed Aigas Wildlife Weeks allow guests the opportunity to see eagles, pine martens, dolphin, otters, red squirrels and so much more.
Programmes shift with the turning season, specialising on whatever aspect of wildlife is current. Our highly trained and qualified rangers will escort you in small groups to share the wonders of the wild Highlands.
All Aigas Wildlife guests will enjoy an optimal number of eight guests to one ranger both in the field and on the road.
Highlights include:- Visits to our local peregrine and osprey breeding sites.
- Evening pine marten and badger watches in our own hides.
- Caledonian pine forest – crossbills, crested tits, brilliant wildflowers in season – twin flower, orchids etc.
- A dawn run to search for otters.
- A boat trip to see the bottlenose dolphins of the Moray Firth.
- A day on the west coast to find sea eagles, cetaceans and the three species of diver.
- A mountain and glen day for spectacular scenery, golden eagles, black and red-throated divers, ravens and red deer, sundews, butterwort, bog asphodel.
- A loch and wetland visit for ospreys, waders and wildfowl.
- An estuary visit for coastal and seabirds, guillemots, razorbills, waders, gulls, geese and ducks, as well as coastal flowers.
- Warm family hospitality and home cooking in the House of Aigas.
- No wonder our wildlife weeks are such a hit! Well over 100 species of birds seen in a week, delightful mammals, dazzling scenery, unique facilities.
Aigas accommodates up to 30 guests in comfortable and spacious timber lodges dotted around the gardens and wooded grounds of the House of Aigas. The lodges are cosy and friendly, warm and entirely self-contained. The grounds are dedicated to wildlife; it’s not at all unusual to see roe deer from your window, hear a red squirrel scuttling around on the roof or glimpse a pine marten running along your balcony rail.
Cordon Bleu trained Lucy Lister-Kaye runs the catering at Aigas. The estate is organic; we eat much of our own produce – beef and venison – and we buy ingredients locally whenever we can.
Dinner is a 3-course set menu, breakfast is hot porridge and a help-yourself buffet of lots of cereals, toast and fruit. Every day fresh rolls and baguettes are made up for your packed lunch and guests are offered a selection of many other ingredients to take with them each day. Thermos tea and coffee are carried on all expeditions.
The cost is fully inclusive and no single supplement is charged.
