Torrisdale Castle Estate
Torrisdale Castle Estate is situated in a stunning location on the Kintyre peninsula overlooking the island of Arran. With an excellent range of accommodation, the estate has lots to offer for all visitors, including Kintyre's only craft distillery where award winning Kintyre Gin is made as well as a range of other exquisite spirits. Tours and gin school are available.
Our superb range of self-catering properties on Kintyre's east coast provide accommodation for groups of between 2 and 6 people. The estate offers the perfect opportunity to experience the comforts of modern day living whilst relaxing within a stunning and stress-free environment. Breaks are available for a minimum of 3 nights throughout the year.
We are also embracing green technology, and have installed a biomass boiler to serve several properties on the estate, and a small hydro scheme which generates enough electricity for 90 houses.
Within the ground floor of the castle is a large and spacious self-catering apartment and set within the peaceful wooded grounds are a further 2 cosy cottages. In 2023 we added two unique eco-bothies for that off-grid, digital detox experience.
The Kintyre Way passes through the estate, which is an ideal base for those looking to complete the long distance walk in individual stretches, being almost halfway on the 87 mile route.
The estate also boasts Kintyre's first (and currently, only!) craft distillery - Beinn an Turic Distillers Ltd - where we make delicious, sustainably distilled Kintyre Gin and other craft products. We run regular gin tours and even offer gin school - a unique blending experience. The distillery has a lovely licenced cafe which serves home baking, light lunches and delicious afternoon teas.
AccommodationThe Servants' Quarters is located on the ground floor of the Castle, and as the name suggests used to form the various stores, kitchens and communal rooms for the workers of the house. The apartment has excellent views towards the sea and the Isle of Arran, and whilst technically an 'apartment', extends to around 1,800 sqft of space - equivalent to a good sized family home! The Servants' Quarters comprises a lovely kitchen/dining room, a large living room, master bedroom with en-suite facilities including feature roll-top bath, two further twin rooms and a shower room. There is also a secret room carefully hidden for all to try and find - open the room and see what you find.....! Finished to a high standard throughout with Cole and Son and Timorous Beasties wallpaper, biomass central heating and an exclusive 'Riverside Spa' - wood burning hot tub and wood burning barrel sauna - you certainly won't be left wanting after your holiday!
Garden Cottage is a real gem. Situated on a wooded hillside overlooking the former walled garden, the property was fully refurbished in 2011 and comprises a large double bedroom with king size bed, bathroom with shower and bath, a comfortable sitting room/dining room, and a separate kitchen. With timber lined walls, working shutters, a feature fireplace with log burning stove, and insulated to the highest level, this cottage offers year round accommodation and is the ideal romantic hideaway. The outdoor wood burning eco hot tub is an instant hit with guests. Load up the hot tub with wood, go for a walk to the beach, come back, strip off and jump in with a glass of champagne!
South Lodge is a lovely B-Listed cottage situated at the main gates of the estate and has views to die for towards the Kilbrannan Sound and the Isle of Arran from the large picture window in the living room! A small sandy beach is located nearby and a secluded garden lies adjacent to the cottage, next to the burn that leads to the sea. The cottage offers year round accommodation and is the ideal romantic retreat, whatever the weather. Refurbished during early 2016, the accommodation of South Lodge comprises a double bedroom with king bed, sitting room/dining room with adjacent kitchen and a shower room. The cottage has a multi-fuel stove in the living room.
Baker's Bothy and Shepherd's Bothy are situated on the hillside beside the distillery complex and enjoy stunning views over the Kilbrannan Sound over to Arran. Designed for the 'glamping' market, they are definitely more on the glam side of camping. They are warm and cosy with a comfortable kingsize bed on a mezzanine level, a walk-in shower and a well equipped kitchen. They have been built keeping our sustainable ethos in mind using local larch and are powered by solar panels from a nearby shed.
