St Andrews Old Course Tour, for the golfer
St Andrews Old Course tours are 'bucket list' award-winning St Andrews walking tours with Richard Falconer; author, historian, guide and 1980s Pro A1 Old Course Caddie. St Andrews Old Course tours feature both golf and Old Course development.
On a St Andrews Old Course tour, you will learn about the origins of the game of golf, the rules and the development of the Old Course in St Andrews through the 18th-20th century timeline.
Up to 5 daily tours to choose from, 7 days a week:
April to September: 10 am, 12 noon, 2 pm, 4 pm, 5:30 pm
October to March: 12 noon, 2 pm, 4 pm
(Sundays through the year - Walk the Old Course fairway - excludes championship/tournament days)
Richard will sort out the muddle of how the Old Course became the first with 18 holes, about double greens, red and white flags, the Old Course burial ground, rabbit wars, and how an elephant was hit by a ball on the Old Course fairway. He will tell you about the surrounding buildings, including one that increased the popularity of golf in 1895, and the genius of Nike for the 2015 St Andrews Open Championship.
Hear a little about early golfing pioneers Allan Robertson, Young and Old Tom Morris. About Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Rory Mcilroy, Sean Connery and Doreen Stubbs.
Find out what golf on the Old Course was like back in Richard's day and see his old caddy shack, plus the world's first golf shop and the world’s first putting green. Then have a photo shoot on the most famous historic icon in golf - the Swilkan Bridge, followed by a few of Richard's Road hole golf championship highlights and further recommendations before finishing your tour at the Old Course Jigger Inn, where you can have food/beverages by the 17th fairway (not included).
All this and a lot more packed into one golf-saturated hour!
