John Muir Way Walking Holidays

Cross the Scottish heartland along low-level, approachable paths on the John Muir Way. From Helensburgh to Dunbar, this easy walking holiday weaves together the best sights in the region to create the perfect tourist experience.

All our walking holidays are self-guided, so you can build your walking group from friends and family (or go it alone!) and departure times are completely flexible. Contours Holidays provide daily luggage transfers, 24/7 emergency support, breakfast each morning, and all the maps and guidebooks you'll need to find your way.

We offer three separate holidays along the John Muir Way, with various itineraries to choose from to match your pace and plans.

The Full John Muir Way

Walk 135 miles between distilleries, roman ruins, castles and brilliant lochs on the John Muir Way. We offer itineraries over ten, eleven and twelve days of walking, so you can match daily mileages to your group's pace.

The West Half

Explore the John Muir Way from Helensburgh to Edinburgh on our half-length walking holiday. The west section explores the stunning Lomond Hills, taking in the wildest parts of the trail. Choose from two itinerary options, seven or eight days long.

The East Half

This three- or four-day walking break follows the coastal section of the John Muir Way, cutting east out of Edinburgh along the Firth of Forth and dipping inland on its final leg to Dunbar. This is a brilliant holiday option for birdwatchers or anyone eager to walk seaside Scotland at their own pace.

Our itineraries are flexible. You can always add extra nights at stops of your choosing to build in some rest days and explore each place in full.
