Inverness to Loch More

We recced the Loch More area some years ago, and there is a route right around the loch. It is not suitable for vehicles and is only accessible on foot, bicycle and horseback. There is fishing in the loch, and permits are available locally.

Loch More could be described as the last hinterland in the United Kingdom. There are train stops at Altnabreach and Forsinard, and it is a long but well worth hike to the village of Halkirk and along the Thurso River.

This is part of our green route, and, although not on the North Highland Way, links up with it. Get away from the crowds on the NC500. Please do not attempt to drive it, it is not possible.

Friends of the North Highland Way

Enjoy a great day out exploring the north coast of Scotland on foot, mountain bike or on horseback. We can provide a passport to check into the churches along the route and help with great wildlife watching spots. There are in fact two routes, one along the coast and the other over A'Mhoine.

Opening times

This is self guided, so no opening times, but you will need to check the opening times of the various churches as they change constantly.
