Childhood home of HM The Queen Mother, wife of King George VI, Glamis Castle near Forfar, is the family seat of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorn. It is also the birthplace of HM The Queen’s sister, the late Princess Margaret. The castle dates from the 1300’s although was extensively rebuilt in the 1700’s.
Travelling through the stunning and stark scenery of the Cairngorms National Park, also known as Royal Deeside, is the Highland village of Braemar famous for its Highland Games attended by the Royal Family.
Nearby lies Balmoral Castle. It has been the summer holiday retreat of the Royal Family since its purchase in 1852 by Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria. The grounds and gardens of the castle are open to the public during the summer months unless the Royal Family are in residence.
Crathie Kirk is the small Church of Scotland parish church in the village of Crathie best known for being the regular place of worship of the Royal Family when they are in residence at Balmoral Castle.
Sample the water of life following a tour of Royal Lochnagar Distillery which HRH Prince Charles is known to enjoy. See how the whisky is fermented, distilled and matured.
Ballater is another beautiful Highland village on the banks of the River Dee.
This is a full day tour with lunch in either Braemar or Ballater. Please note, Glamis Castle is closed from January to March.
