Glenfinnan Viaduct, Glencoe & Loch Shiel
Our Glenfinnan Viaduct & the Highlands tour from Edinburgh takes you to locations from movies such as Skyfall, Highlander and Harry Potter. We’ll travel into Glencoe & the Highlands where we'll have around 3 hours at Glenfinnan. Here you'll have time
On our Glenfinnan Viaduct & the Highlands tour from Edinburgh we’ll pass Stirling Castle on route to the Highland town of Callander where we’ll stop to stretch our legs and enjoy a morning refreshment
Our journey continues through Rob Roy MacGregor territory. One of Scotland’s most notorious outlaws, your driver-guide will tell you more about the exploits of this Scottish folk hero.
As we head towards Glencoe you might recognise Buachaille Etive Mor, this stretch of road is where James Bond and M are seen heading to his family home, in the epic ‘Skyfall’. Keep your camera ready as we follow 007's trail.
Glencoe was the setting to one of the most infamous periods in Scottish history, the Glencoe massacre. The Harry Potter filming team used Glencoe in a few shots for several movies including Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban where a full set including Hagrid's hut was built. We'll stop at the Visitor Centre for lunch and to further explore the area.
Our small group tour continues to Glenfinnan where our passengers can enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery in the Scottish Highlands. See the Jacobite Steam train (the Hogwarts Express) cross over the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, the 'bridge to Hogwarts'. You could also walk to the Glenfinnan Station for some close up photos as the train usually stops here.
It was at Glenfinnan where when one of the most important events in Scottish history began. Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard here in an ill-fated attempt to reinstate the exiled Stuarts onto the throne of Great Britain and Ireland.
You can learn more about the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the clans that supported him in the 1745 Jacobite Rising at the Glenfinnan visitor centre.
Loch Shiel (the ’Black Lake’) by the Glenfinnan Monument was used in many Harry Potter films such as The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Half-Blood Prince. It was also used in a scene of the Triwizard Tournament in The Goblet of Fire.
Leaving Glenfinnan behind it’s time to sit back and relax as we make the return journey back to Edinburgh. If you are lucky enough you might see the top Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain as we travel through Fort William. We’ll stop in Pitlochry where you’ll have time for a quick bite to eat before we return to Edinburgh where our tour will end.
