Exclusive Private Castle Tours
We enjoy a large offering of castles in this North East corner of Scotland. A drive down to Stonehaven, fifteen miles south of Aberdeen, allows us to enjoy this lovely fishing town with my favourite castle perched above it.
Dunnottar Castle is an iconic Scottish place. The history opens up to the visitor how life was lived over the years at Dunnottar - it all comes alive! Just come with me and we will share the story of the years. On to Crathes Castle, the seat of the Burnett family, with its history all on show within the castle. This was given to the Burnetts by Robert the Bruce following the Battle of Bannockburn. Beautiful gardens, a shop and lovely cafe surrounded by mature woods provide a lasting memory. Off to Craigievar Castle, possibly the best known to our US visitors. The 'pink castle' or Walt Disney castle seems to be top of their castle agenda. Tall and slim, turreted and with an uncanny likeness to Disney's animated castle, it allows one to understand our American friends feeling familiar when visiting. Now we make our way to Castle Fraser on our road home. A beautiful castle, untouched by battle, which offers a wonderful insight into more recent life within this type of building. This castle, with different building styles within its structure, offers an insight into the ever-changing times, and the small original tower, no doubt a fortification, can still be picked out within the current building. This was home to one arm of the Fraser clan, with a further part of the clan up near Inverness where Lord Lovat, the head of the clan, resides. Our eight-hour tour is now at an end following a thirty-minute run back into the city.
What will be seen/done during the tour:
