Just north of Dunblane with its magnificent Cathedral and home town of tennis star Andy Murray, lies the village of Braco where the mounds of earth, that was once a Roman Fort, can still be clearly seen.
Just outside the scenic village of Muthill, 4 miles south of Crieff and pronounced Mew thill, is Drummond Castle Gardens. The gardens are considered amongst the finest in Europe. First laid out in the 1630’s the gardens doubled for the Gardens of the Palace of Versailles in series of two of Outlander.
Crieff famous as a place where Highland drovers brought their cattle for sale and then as a spa town once Queen Victoria popularised holidays in Scotland remains a popular tourist destination to this day. The Crieff Hydro (hotel) was famous for decades as a temperance hotel where no alcohol was served. Not so now however the Hydro still offers ‘free’ holidays to Church ministers. Crieff is also home to Morrisons Academy one of Scotland’s leading independent schools.
Sample the water of life at Glenturret Distillery which is Scotland’s last traditional hand-mashed distillery making whisky in this way since 1775.
The House of Tartan is in the village of Comrie and nearby lies Cultybraggan or Camp 21 built in 1941 as a high security WWII prisoner of war camp and now a museum.
A beautiful romantic waterfall, the Deil’s Cauldron is hidden next to Comrie in stunning Glen Lednoch which features a large wood and heather covered mountains.
St Fillans at the south of Loch Earn is where in 1964 The Beatles stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel, which is still there, whilst touring Scotland. During the summer you can frequently see sea planes landing and taking off on the loch and the south loch road is a perfect place for a picnic.
This is a full day tour with lunch at a variety of locations in Crieff. Contact us for more information.
