Enjoy a full day tour exploring the county of Angus and part of Aberdeenshire, an area otherwise known as the Birthplace of Scotland. It is an area where the people have battled for independence for many centuries, since the Romans first invaded Britain in the 1st Century. On this tour, we travel North along the Coastal route and visit some of the most important and impressive landmarks in Scotland's history. Our first stop is the ancient ruins of Arbroath Abbey, within the fishing town of Arbroath. This is where the first declaration of Independence was produced by King Robert de Bruce in 1320. The Abbey is an impressive and important landmark in Scotland, first founded in 1178 by King William the Lyon who is buried within the grounds. We continue North and visit the spectacular ruins of Dunnottar Castle, one of the most impregnable castles of its time in Britain. The castle was held under siege for more than 8 months in 1651 by Oliver Cromwell's army. A visit to Dunnottar is always an exhilarating one and sure to give you an appetite. Our next stop therefore is lunch in the nearby fishing town of Stonehaven or somewhere suitable on route. After lunch, we travel inland into the Vale of Strathmore and visit the fabulous Glamis Castle, family home of the 19th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne, and childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth the late 'Queen Mother' and birthplace of the late Princess Margaret (HRH Princess Margaret). All together this tour has something for everyone and we are sure you will have a wonderful day!
