Beginners' Photography Workshop - Get off Auto

A one-day beginners' photography workshop. "Get off auto" forever and learn the basic skills of good photography in a day. We start in the classroom learning your camera's controls, before a practical session practising your new photography skills!

If you're a beginner and you've been using your camera on Auto, or trying various settings with mixed results, this workshop will give you a good foundation in photography in just one day. You'll have ample hands-on practice and take home handouts and assignments to refine your skills - practice makes perfect!

Where does this workshop run?

You can attend this workshop in Edinburgh at the Anna Henly Photography Studio, or in Glasgow at the Glasgow Botanic Gardens, or at House for an Art Lover.

Cameras: DSLR, Mirrorless Compact System (CSC), Four-Thirds, Bridge, Superzoom and Compact.

Don't have a camera yet? We're happy to provide a loan camera, free of charge. Reserve a camera when you book.

Content: Learn how to create blurred backgrounds in your portrait and close-up shots to make your subject really stand out, and take detailed landscape photos, by shooting in Aperture Priority. Find the fastest way to access your camera's features, how shutter speed affects your photos and how to avoid camera shake by adjusting ISO. Learn how to add interest to your photos with some tips on composition and put it all into practice by taking some close-up, portrait & landscape shots.

Where: We begin in the classroom, to learn how to get the best from your camera, then go outside, taking a variety of photographs, practising your new skills! Finally back to the classroom to discuss your images with plenty of time for your questions.

Group Size: Small, friendly classes with a maximum 10 students per tutor. You can also study on a 1:1 basis (price on request).
