Aberdeenshire Golf tour
Our Golf Breaks in Aberdeen includes golf on all of the top links courses in the area. The most popular courses are Royal Aberdeen, Murcar Links, Trump Aberdeen and Cruden Bay. In addition to these favourites we have added the hidden gems of Frase
Royal Aberdeen Golf Club is rated as one of the very best golf courses in Scotland. It was founded in 1780, making Royal Aberdeen the the sixth oldest golf club in the world. Archie & Robert Simpson from Carnoustie created the course which was later re-bunkered and lengthened by James Braid.
The Balgownie Course is a true classic links layout with the front 9 holes going out through the sand dunes whilst the back nine holes are along a plateau. The front 9 holes at Balgownie are ranked amongst the best in world golf.
Royal Aberdeen Golf Club hosted the Walker Cup in 2011 and a European Tour event, the Scottish Open in 2014.
Murcar Links is a classic links course with huge sand dunes, burns, whins and heather. Although not the longest, its tight fairways and penal rough make it a very demanding test for golfers of all ablilities. Located just north of Aberdeen, Murcar was established in 1909. Originally designed by Archie Simpson it was altered and refined in the 1930's by James Braid. More recent alterations, sympathetic to what Simpson and Braid set out to achieve were undertaken by Graeme J Webster's Team Niblick.
The most recent addition to Aberdeenshire golf is the magnificent Trump International Golf Links. Created on a marvellous piece of land at Balmedie, it has received many accolades in the short time it has been open. Onsite accommodation is available in MacLeod House. Its addition greatly enhances taking a golf break in Aberdeen.
Cruden Bay just 23 miles north of Aberdeen is one of the best links courses in Scotland. Boasting magnificent panoramic views over the North Sea, some poeple claim that golf was played here in 1791. The original course, designed by Old Tom Morris from St Andrews opened in 1899 having been commissioned by GNSR (Great North of Scotland Railway). The subtle greens and large sand dunes makes it an old fashioned links which is always highly ranked in golfing publications
Establish in 1777, Fraserburgh Golf Club is the 7th oldest golf club in the world. The oldest golf course located north of the Old Course St Andrews, it lies just north of Cruden Bay and is a traditional Scottish links course. Its wild undulating fairways and large sand dunes offer an interesting challenge and the green fees are very reasonable.
Established in 1841 Peterhead Golf Club is the 18th oldest golf club in the world and the clubs history is amongst the elite of Scotland. The Old Course provides spectacular, panoramic views of the River Ugie, the unspoilt sand dunes and the beaches. Designed in 1892 by Willie Park Junior it provides a golfing challenge to golfers of all standards with the prevailing weather conditions adding to its degree of difficulty.
