The Butterworth Gallery is an Online Art Gallery based on Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire. Specialising in Scottish fine art by Howard Butterworth and daughter Mary Louise Butterworth.Showcasing a wide range of Scottish original landscapes from the West Coast of Scotland to the stunning mountains of the Cairngorms National Park, their work is inspired by the changing landscape and captures moments in time. If you have visited Edinburgh, Aberdeen or some of the North East coastal villages and castles you will find these too captured in fine art by both artists.
Howard Butterworth is a renowned Scottish artist and has lived and painted professionally in northern Scotland since 1968. Producing mostly oil paintings, his style captures the atmosphere of light and colour that is so unique to Scotland. His work spans the whole of Scotland and parts of Europe and Howard's patrons include private and corporate buyers with several works featuring in the Royal Collections of H.M. Queen Elizabeth and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother who closely supported him over the years. Many of his paintings are now published as prints, cards and giftware.
Mary Louise has been painting full time since 2004 and is acclaimed for her use of light and ability to capture atmosphere. Her subjects are contemporary spaces for reflection and solace both within urban and countryside settings. Late night street lights, the last moments of dusk on the coast and forgotten places are common themes - often ‘setting the stage for the viewer to play out their own story or creating a place to escape to’. With a large and diverse client base, her work is much sought after by galleries and collectors, making her distinctive pieces a real find.
Established in 1996 the gallery now operates fully online. The complete collection of their published artwork is available as cards, prints, giftware alongside seasonal original exhibitions.
