A fantastic FREE family day out, just 20 minutes from Glasgow!
Whitelee is the largest onshore windfarm in the UK and the second largest in Europe. Its 215 turbines are capable of generating up to 539 megawatts of electricity on a windy day!
Located on Eaglesham Moor, this amazing site features its very own Visitor Centre, with FREE entry for all!
Inside you’ll find interactive exhibits about renewable energy, demonstrating how the turbines work – you can even build your own windfarm! These are suitable for all ages.
There’s a cafe serving hot drinks, delicious locally sourced cakes and additional hot and cold meals, including children’s meals. When having a bite to eat you can enjoy panoramic views of the windfarm or even sit at the picnic benches on the viewing deck if the sun is shining.
There’s even a small gift shop and an education hub, often hosting family workshops during the weekends and holidays.
Outside you will find free parking, including dedicated spaces for blue badge holders, an electric vehicle charging bay and an area for horse boxes.
For adventurous types there are more than 130 kilometres of trails to explore by foot, cycle or horse. We also offer a bus tour of the site to make sure everyone can still experience the turbines up close.
Whitelee also has its own Ranger Service and you can find our Rangers in their cabin in the car park (when they are not out and about on site!). They organise a diverse calendar of events throughout the year, many of which are free, so there’s no excuse not to get out and explore the windfarm!
What’s more, our Visitor Centre is managed by Glasgow Science Centre so there are lots of experts on hand to answer any questions you may have.
