The Lighthouse
The Lighthouse, Scotland’s Centre for Design and Architecture
The Lighthouse is a visitor centre, exhibition space and events venue in the heart of Glasgow. The Lighthouse acts as a beacon for the creative industries in Scotland and promotes design and architecture through a creative programme of exhibitions and events.
The Lighthouse is housed in the former Glasgow Herald building, the first public commission completed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and is the perfect place to begin a Mackintosh tour of Glasgow. Our Mackintosh Interpretation Centre also charts the life and work of Mackintosh and allows access to the Mack Tower, providing unrivalled views of Glasgow.
On Level One, our Gallery One and Review Gallery spaces offer a changing programme of exhibitions and events focused on the impact of design and architecture on our everyday lives.
Level Two hosts Architecture and Design Scotland's Sustainable Building Materials Library offering visitors a chance to explore and analyse a wide range of sustainable building materials.
The Lighthouse has four floors of multi-purpose spaces which can be hired for corporate events, evening receptions and weddings. Our Doocot café also provides hearty food in an inviting atmosphere. Topping off the building is the Viewing Platform, where visitors can get a wonderful view of the city.
Our exhibitions programme has brought internationally acclaimed events such as Paul Smith to Glasgow while at the same time developing and delivering major events which showcase the talent and quality of work of people and organisations based or trained in Glasgow.
We have worked with and supported the team at the Graphic Design Festival to create the largest design event in Scotland and the largest Graphic Design event in Britain. This work not only projects the narrative of Glasgow as an important part of the national Creative Industries it also provides placement and employment opportunities for designers.
The Lighthouse is located on Mitchell Lane, just off of Glasgow's Buchanan Street. We hope to see you soon!
