Taigh-Tasgaidh + Ionad-Ealain Taigh Chearsabhagh / Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum & Arts Centre is an award-winning museum and gallery which boasts a photographic collection, local artefacts, art and craft workshops, print & darkroom studios, a sculpture trail, café, shop and Post Office.
Located in the attractive village of Lochmaddy on the Isle of North Uist, Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum & Arts Centre lets you uncover the area’s art, culture and heritage.
The centre presents an annual programme of contemporary visual arts and heritage exhibitions, literary and traditional music events, as well as small festivals and conferences. Taigh Chearsabhagh’s ethos aims to reflect and celebrate the Gaelic language and culture which is integral to the identity of the islands. Events and activities are open to all.
Museum exhibitions explore the social, domestic, economic, cultural and religious life of North Uist, with a variety of fascinating artefacts mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries. The visual arts programme presents artists’ commissions, residencies and touring exhibitions, complemented by community-focused workshops. Taigh Chearsabhagh also hosts UHI Innse Gall's visual arts degree courses.
Facilities include a fantastic print workshop and dark room. Taigh Chearsabhagh's gift shop offers an excellent range of books, jewellery, crafts and textiles, as well as toys and holiday souvenirs, and the local Post Office. The café is open all year round, where visitors can enjoy a tasty lunch and home baking, with beautiful views across to the Isle of Harris.
