In the visitor centre you will discover magnificent displays of minerals (including gold), mining and other local artefacts. During the season you can search for hidden gold by trying your hand at the ancient technique of gold panning. As Gold can be found in many areas of Scotland and particularly in the Lowther Hills around Wanlockhead and Leadhills where gold panning has been popular for centuries. Directions
Well sign posted from M74, just follow the Lead Mining Museum brown signs, we are 8 miles from Sanquhar and 8 Miles from Abington.
There are buses from Lanark or Sanqhuar but are very few, and do not run on Sundays.
So own transport is a must for the area.
