Welcome to Islay. We specialise in providing quality trips around the coastline of Islay. Kayak Wild Islay is based in Port Ellen, close to the local amenities and some of the main accommodation providers. We are, however, happy to travel to be nearer to your accommodation, and even to Jura if required (at additional cost) but Port Ellen does offer a nice variety of coastline to explore.
We offer a range of guided trips and taster sessions for all the family, individually tailored to suit you in small group sizes. Do read our reviews on TripAdvisor.
A half day is best suited for those wishing to try Sea Kayaking for the very first time. We will kit you out, provide a safety demonstration and introduce the basics of boat handling to allow you to explore the bay and its surrounding skerries. We will spend about 2-2½ hours in the kayaks plus time for a hot drink and a piece of homemade flapjack.
Each day will be a mix of relaxation and adventure. On a full day’s excursion we may spend four or five hours in the kayaks and cover between seven and ten miles, with plenty of opportunities to land and explore islands on foot. The aim of the trip is not endurance but an opportunity to discover beautiful places using the ideal transport. For some it is the new activity that is appealing, for others it is the peace and tranquillity.
Along the way your guide will introduce you to the areas of abundant wildlife, you may spot seals, herons, arctic terns, black guillemots and even the elusive otter in its natural environment. The silent mobility of sea kayaks enables us to explore a world of remote islands, skerries and stunning beaches and discover hidden lagoons and bays.
