A warm welcome from all the congregation of Dalserf Parish Church awaits you here.
Whether you wish to join us for worship, join us for teas and home baking on a Saturday afternoon, wander around our peaceful ancient graveyard, view our historic and modern stained-glass windows or have the joy of being married in Dalserf, we would be delighted to meet you.
Dalserf nestles in the picturesque Clyde Valley and despite its proximity to “civilisation” Dalserf village sits serene and timeless as the River Clyde meanders around it.
From the A72, a short cottage-lined road leads to Dalserf Kirk which sits in an ancient graveyard. The existing church building was built in 1655 but the site itself has been a place of worship for 1000 years. In the graveyard is an Anglo Scandinavian “Hogback” gravestone from around the 10th century. This is one of only a few not in museums.
Dalserf Church has an important “Covenanting” history, and the graveyard has monuments to both covenanters and those who persecuted them. Rev John MacMillan, the founder of the Reformed Presbyterian Church has an obelisk marking his grave.
In more recent times Winston Churchill was a regular attender when he visited his in laws who lived in the nearby Mauldslie Castle.
There are four small stained-glass windows dating back to when the church was built, and two larger modern stained-glass windows donated in 1999 by an American family.
Dalserf Church has a compact “T” shaped sanctuary with seven exits. It is warm and inviting and a special place of worship. The services are on a Sunday at 11.30am and are preceded by the church bell ringing. This little historic church has a vibrant and growing congregation, and we stream our services live on YouTube. These services can be viewed at any time.
If you would like to get married in Dalserf Church our locum minister, Rev Fiona Anderson, would be delighted to speak to you. The Christian wedding would be personal, warm, intimate, and set in a venue that would enhance further your memory of your special day. You would also become part of our family and history. We could also stream your ceremony live on a private stream for family and friends to view. If you wish you could have a Scottish bagpiper pipe you through Dalserf Village to the Church. There are many local hotels that would be able to provide a venue for you and your guests after the marriage service. More details about being married in the church can be found in our website.
During the summer the bakers of Dalserf get busy and we provide Teas and Cakes in our small adjacent hall. The baking and hospitality are unrivalled so why not pop in and experience some great Scottish cakes and pies.
Access to the graveyard is available at anytime but please call in advance if you want to ensure access to the church itself. There is no charge.
Dalserf sits 19 miles from the centre of Glasgow and 41 miles from the centre of Edinburgh.
