This famous Wigtownshire garden has been described as “the most romantic in these parts” and extends to 5 acres of mixed planting, sloping lawns, hidden walled areas, broad walkways, a large pond and burn, and shady woodland walks. Encouraged by the proximity of the Gulf Stream, Robin planted a vast range of Southern hemisphere and coastal plants alongside old favourites, with the result that there is interest at all times of year.
We welcome groups and offer guided tours and propagation day courses by arrangement, and the garden and nursery are open all year round from 10am – 5pm on an honesty box basis. Admission £5 per person.
The extensive Nursery houses a huge variety of plants all propagated from the Garden. We are delighted to give advice on what to buy and can provide a planting service to local garden owners
Our nursery, Galloway Plants, is located adjacent to Claymoddie Garden. All our plants are propagated from the Garden with very few exceptions. We have as wide a range as we can produce and you will see there is a good choice of favourites as well as more unusual items, in particular a good collection of hydrangeas and camellias, also several southern hemisphere trees and shrubs, all of which thrive in the Garden.
You are very welcome to take as long as you like to select plants which you like the look of and which will work for your particular climate and soil conditions. Please ask us if you need information about the plants.
Claymoddie Garden is the “shop window” for our stock, but if you are unable to visit us we will be pleased, whatever time of year, to discuss your requirements with you by email or on the telephone. We will send your plants by courier (minimum orders £50, plus post and packing). Cost of P&P varies depending on the size of the plants and their containers. If leaving a message on the answer-phone, please be sure to speak very clearly, leaving name and number.
