The Beehive Inn is situated in the historic heart of Edinburgh's vibrant and bustling Grassmarket, which was once a busy market spot for corn, forage and cattle. The area is full of history, and just a few steps away from the pub is the site of the gallows, which has stood there since the mid 17th century. If a former owner of The Beehive, John Grant, is to be believed, Robert Burn's himself stayed just next door and watched cockfights in The Beehive during his sojourn in Edinburgh.
With a drinks license thought to have existed since it was a 16th century Coaching Inn, the present building, incorperating a bar, restaurant and beer garden, replaced The Beehive Hotel in the 1860s. The main entrance to The Beehive Inn leads to a hall which was once an alleyway between two separate tenements, which were later joined up so that the bars on the left and right could be used as separate houses.
As tourists and locals alike flock to the vibrant Grassmarket, the Beehive Inn has something for everyone. The food menu is packed full of great food classics which includes our famous hand-battered Fish and Chips, homemade Steak and Ale Pie and a good old Sausage and Mash, using local produce to keep the menu as traditionally Scottish as possible. Our Cullen Skink Soup is a firm favourite with tourists who are after a scottish delicacy, as well as Balmoral Chicken featuring the traditional Haggis. As for alcoholic beverages, you can take your pick from the fantastic cask line up on tap such as our own Belhaven Saltire lager brewed in Scotland, a selection of over 25 Craft Gins, an extensive wine menu with wines from across the globe and a vast collection of Scottish Malt Whiskies.
