This recently renovated cottage with open linked lounge and dining areas, 2 double bedrooms upstairs and a twin downstairs, 2 bathrooms, 1 upstairs and 1 down, a fully fitted kitchen with dish washer, washer and condenser drier, new cooker with double oven, microwave and digital air fryer, a large private walled sunny garden and situated across the street from the village green, beach and sea, handy for shops, post office, pubs and restaurants, it accommodates 6, plus a cot and high chair for baby and a nappy changing worktop in the downstairs bathroom. Oil fired central heating and wood burning stove, Free-Sat TV's with Firesticks and unlimited high speed Wi-Fi. All bed linen and towels etc included. Stays from 2 nights to a week or longer
Location
Situated centrally in the village, across the street from the village green and beach, the cottage is handy for the village shops, restaurants, pubs & hotels and close to the start of the coastal path to Laphroaig, Lagavullin & Ardbeg distilleries. To the rear is a large private gated terraced sunny walled garden. Parking on the street is free and there is a private gated parking space for the sole use of guests to the rear of the walled garden.
What we Provide
Accommodation for 6 plus a cot for baby, up to 2 small dogs*, with oil fired central heating, a log burning stove, flat screen TV's with Free-Sat and wi-fi connected Roku Firesticks, unlimited high speed wi-fi, bed linen and towels, a supply of hand soap, fairy liquid, wash tabs, dish wash tabs, toilet paper and a selection of basic kitchen supplies such as salt, pepper, rape seed oil, herbs & spices, kitchen towels, cling film, cooking foil etc. There are linked heat & smoke alarms throughout and carbon monoxide alarms in the lounge and king bedroom. A fire blanket in the kitchen and powder fire extinguishers are provided for your safety.
* We can accommodate up to 2 small well behaved and house trained dogs, by prior arrangement only. Please first enquire. We are unable to accommodate other pets, including cats.
Downstairs
From the front door on Frederick Crescent, you enter the tiled lobby with a door opening to the open plan linked lounge & dining areas from where a vestibule with wall mounted OS map of Islay and short corridor lead to the fully fitted modern kitchen, utility cupboard, twin bedroom and bathroom. The back door to the kitchen opens onto the private walled garden.
The lounge contains leather upholstered seating for 6, a Dutch tiled coffee table, Charnwood log burning stove with Caithness slate hearth, 40" flat screen free-sat TV with digital entertainment systems and a wi-fi connected Roku Firestick and Hue smart floor & table dimmable lighting to ensure a cosy atmosphere. There is engineered oak flooring throughout. The oil fired central heating thermostatat is located on a wall in the lounge. The smart lighting shoud be operated from the Hue App on your smart phone or tablet. A limited supply of logs is provided if available.
The dining area contains a gate legged pine table with seating for 6 and a high chair, a chest of drawers storing place mate and games (back gammon, dominoes, monopoly, scrabble, cards etc) and Hue smart floor & table lighting to ensure a cosy atmosphere. There is engineered oak flooring throughout. The smart lighting shoud be operated from the Hue App on your smart phone or tablet.
The vestible contains a wall hung framed OS map of Islay. Both the vestibule and the corridor have engineered oak flooring throughout. There is a single step with short hand rail to highlight it between the vestibule and the corridor.
The kitchen is modern and fully equipped with a new 4 ceramic hob and double oven cooker, microwave, 4.3L digital air fryer, double sink, upright fridge/freezer, automatic dish washing machine, espresso, filter & cafetiere coffee machines, electric kettle, 4 slice toaster, digital/fm radio, pots & pans, dishes, cutlery, cups, glasses, plates and an extensive range of kitchen tools & gadgets. It has tiled flooring throughout. A cooker hood with light and extraction fan is located above the hobs and there is concealed strip lighting above the work surfaces..
The utility room houses the automatic washing machine, condenser drier and a range of cleaning equipment (mops, buckets flash etc). It stores a drying rack and 2 deck chairs and also has shelf storage space for guests' use. It has tiled flooring throughout.
There is a small additional charge for use of the laundry facilities for stays of 3 nights or less.
The twin bedroom contains 2 european sized single beds in stacked bunk formation. There are are individual lamps for each bed, a wall mirror, wardrobe and a chest of drawers with a table lamp and vanity mirror. There is engineered oak flooring throughout.
The bathroom has been newly refurbished with electric shower cubicle, toilet and wash hand basin, wall bathroom cabinet with mirror and nappy changing/make-up bar wiith cupboard storage space under and wall mirror above. It has vinyl floor boards throughout. An extraction fan operates off the ceiling lighting.
The lobby has tiled flooring throughout. The electric meter and circuit breakers cupboard is located on one wall. Apart from resetting a circuit breaker if necessary this need not be touched.The door to the lounge area leads off the lobby as does the staircase to the first floor.
Upstairs
The king bedroom contains a european king sized bed, individual bedside tables with lamps, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a unit seating a 32" flat screen free-sat TV with digital entertainment systems and wi-fi connected Roku Firestick, a clothes stand and a wash hand basin with integral storage cupboards. There is a rocking chair at the window and a wicker chair. An iron, ironing table and a hair drier are stored in the wardrobe. The bedside lamps have Hue smart lighting. There is stained and varnished timber flooing throughoiut. The smart lighting should be operated from the Hue Dimmer Switch located on a bedside table or from the Hue App on your smart phone or tablet.
The double bedroom contains a european double sized bed, individual bedside tables with lamps, a 24" flat screen TV with digital entertainment systems and wi-fi connected Roku Firestick, a wardrobe and a wicker chair. The mattress for the cot and a hair drier are stored in the wardrobe. The bedside lamps have Hue smart lighting. There is stained and varnished timber flooring throughoiut.The smart lighting shoud be operated from the Hue App on your smart phone or tablet.
The bathroom has been refurbished with an electric shower cubicle, toilet and wash hand basin with wall mirror with light and electric shaving socket above. There is a tiled shelf to store toiletries. It has tiled flooring throughout. An extraction fan operates off the ceiling lighting.
The staircase & landing are new and of stained & varnished timber construction. The staircase is circular and the headroom is very slightly restricted at the bottom step. Tall guests should take care not to bump their head when negotiating this part. It is best to wear shoes and to use the handrail on the stair as the varnished timber can occasionally be slippy if, for example, just wearing hand knitted socks. Both bedrooms and the bathroom are accessed off the landing.
