Hazlefield House is a charming, grade B listed, Georgian House set in approximately 4 acres of gardens and grounds, the main part dates from 1835 but with some older parts dating from around 1750. However, there has been a house on the site of Hazlefield for over 450 years. There is a tradition that when Mary, Queen of Scots fled from Scotland in 1568 she spent her last night on Scottish soil at a farmhouse known as ‘Hazlefield’.
Situated in the "Stewartry", one of the most scenic parts of Galloway, and from its elevated position, all rooms have outstanding views across rolling farmland and the Solway Firth to the Lake District Hills. A wide panorama of hills can be seen in clear weather, from Skiddaw in the North East, through the Buttermere Fells in the centre of Scafell range in the South West.
Standing in 4 acres of peaceful mature garden grounds with fine trees and shrubs, Hazlefield offers guests great shelter and privacy. The wooded grounds and sweeping lawns are ideal setting for that quiet getaway, or the perfect place for a picnic. Lounging on the lawns, under the trees or just admiring the view. We have benches in the gardens, a patio table set by the house and we can provide a rug, plates, cutlery and glasses if needed.
