Two charming and characterful cottages, on an old sea-farm, in the beautiful pastoral landscape of south-west Arran
The Hayshed (sleeping four plus one doggie companion), is located on Ivy Cottage Farm, on the upper slopes of the lovely Corriecravie Valley in Arran's south-west corner, overlooking the sea towards Kintyre.
The Hayshed is a skilful reconstruction (retaining the original stone walls) of a former agricultural store into a comfortable modern cottage. We have recently completed a large accessible, ground floor extension to the existing historic Hayshed building. The extension provides a sunny, open plan dining, lounge and kitchen area with cosy wood burning stove, smart TV and underfloor heating. Picture windows from the extension look out to fantastic views of the sea, the coast of Kintyre and our beautiful Corriecravie valley. On the ground floor of the original Hayshed we now have a double bedroom with king sized bed and a spacious bathroom with accessible features such as a wheelchair accessible shower. There is a ramp leading to a level entry front door and easy parking adjacent to the access ramp. The front door leads onto a paved terrace with wooden picnic table. One dog is welcome by prior arrangement.
Access to the site lies down a stone and concrete track from the road, and there is further pedestrian access down a rough track to the shore, with a breathtaking panorama of sea, land and sky from the top of the braes. There is an opportunity to see otters, seals and migratory birds along the rocky shoreline, with its rugged geology and rockpools.
Pony trekking, golf course, indoor swimming-pool and long sandy beach all at nearby Blackwaterfoot.
Short breaks available, minimum 3 nights, outside of July and August – please enquire.
Getting there by railway:- take the Calmac ferry from Ardrossan Harbour station to Brodick. From ferry terminal, take the 322 bus service to Blackwaterfoot via the Southend. Ask the driver to drop you at the stop in Sliddery, from which carry on up the hill out of the village in the same direction as the bus. Our track is on your left, marked by a sign indicating Far Horizons Holiday Cottages, just before the road drops steeply into the Corriecraivie valley.
