Douglas Arms Hotel

Situated at the corner of King Street and St Andrew’s Street opposite the Clock Tower in Castle Douglas, the Douglas Arms Hotel is over 200 years old and is a former coaching inn. Built into the wall is a stone often put on a lintel bearing the name of the man and his wife who built the house.

The town’s founder, William Douglas most probably stayed here before he built his residence at Kelton. On the King Street wall of the hotel is a mile-stone in tablet form, rescued from a ditch by a former provost, Dr. T. M Donald, which shows mileages to a few destinations such as Dumfries, Carlisle, London, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

All ages can benefit from plenty of places, like beaches and areas for walking, and all places are accessible by car, too. The National Trust of Scotland's Threave Garden and Threave Castle are set on the outskirts of Castle Douglas, and the beautiful artists' town of Kirkcudbright, as well as the National Trust's Broughton House, home of artist E.A. Hornel are recommended too.

Scotland's charming history and enchanting culture can be found in the historic Caerlaverock Castle, Drumlanrig Castle, home of the Dukes of Buccleuch, and many more fascinating places.
