The land where Dene Guest House now stands was bought in 1832 and work was soon underway to build a grand family home in what turned out to be one of the last Georgian style properties in the New Town of Edinburgh.
A few changes of ownership and more than a century later, in the late 1940's, paying lodgers were received into the house and the family moved into the downstairs part of the building, where the servants would have originally lived !
Since the last change of hands in 1995, the Dene has continued to welcome guests from all over the world with a relaxed and homely atmosphere.
The individually decorated bedrooms each have a flat screen TV, complimentary tea/coffee making facilites and free WiFi. Bed linen and towels are provided along with a small range of toiletries. We offer rooms of all shapes and sizes; some with private, en-suite bathrooms and others that share the shower rooms & toilet facilities - perfect for those on a tighter budget.
The dining room has a comfortable seating area where guests are welcome to relax at any time. There are board games, books and magazines as well as a guitar which always enjoys attention !
We do not offer breakfast, but we provide complimentary milk & cereals and there is also a fridge for guest use.
The guest house is served by numerous bus routes, but Edinburgh is best visited on foot. The city, sometimes referred to as "The Athens of The North" is laid out over 7 hills, so you may want to choose the neighbourhood you stay in depending on whether an uphill walk is preferable at the beginning of the day or the end of it !
The main shopping district of Princes Street and the famous Princes Street Gardens are a 12 - 15 minute walk (uphill) with the Royal Mile and the Old Town of Edinburgh being a further few minutes in the same direction. A short walk north of the guest house will take you to The Royal Botanic Gardens, while to the west is the vibrant area of Stockbrige with its numerous bars & restaurants. From there, the photogenic Dean Village is just a 5 minute walk along the beautiful Water of Leith.
1 parking space is available at the back of the guest house which is chargeable at £20 per day. Please check availability of this prior to making a room reservation to avoid disappointment.
