Located between gentle rolling hills and the dramatic coastline of the beautiful Scottish Borders, just off the A1 between Berwick upon Tweed and Eyemouth, we are delighted to offer guests the Warmest of Welcomes to Scotland or a Haste ye Back if you are heading over the Border.
We are delighted that we can now offer EV charging facilities for guests, and visitors. With two charge points we are pleased to be able to offer non residents use of the chargers too but do ask that you call us first to make sure that they are available.
We have excellent electric cycle charging, secure storage, repair/cleaning, and overnight drying facilities for cyclists and being so close to Eyemouth we are a perfect accommodation choice for small groups completing the Kirkpatrick C2C. challenges.
Coastal Path walkers are very often delighted that we have overnight drying facilities available and usually very relieved to realise the proximity of the house to the path, especially if they have experienced the delights of our four seasons in one day special Scottish weather!
Having the village pub a short walk away, providing excellent snacks and meals, is always a bonus.
There are a number of delightful Wedding venues in the immediate area and we always love to go the extra mile for guests who are attending a marriage celebration or other special occasion. Whenever we can, we offer early check ins so that guests have plenty of time to get changed or freshened up before the event, and are happy to offer a late breakfast, if possible, the following morning. There is a taxi service based in the village and we can assist guests to pre arrange their travel to and from the venue.
Increasingly, visitors to events in Edinburgh are finding it difficult to find affordable accommodation in the Capital . Creel Cottage is only 10 minutes drive from two mainline stations, Berwick upon Tweed and Reston, where a very enjoyable and scenic train journey of just 45 minutes will take you right into the centre of Edinburgh.
Many of our guests have stayed for just one night enroute to destinations further north or south - a quick flick through our guest book confirms that without exception they have wished they were staying longer and that they hope to return soon.
There is so much more to the Scottish Borders than most people realise and a huge variety of activities to explore and experience. Let us know what your interests are and we will do our best to provide you with the information you need. If we don't know the answers we will almost certainly know someone who does!
OUR ACCOMMODATION
It’s often difficult to find self contained Bed & Breakfast accommodation in smaller establishments and we have taken care to create a very comfortable and covid safe environment at Creel Cottage. The house is very adaptable and is configured to accommodate B&B guests in their own suite of very comfortable rooms and luxurious bathroom.
We have a choice of the Double Room with private bathroom on its own OR the Triple Room with private bathroom on its own. These two rooms can only be rented on their own due to the layout or both together as a Family Suite for larger groups, sharing the bathroom.
Please take note of the payment conditions (on our website) for the Triple Room and that dogs are not allowed in this room.
The entrance door to the rooms leads from the first floor balcony directly into the former creel storage area, now a charming Super King-size or twin bedroom. There are three steps up to the corridor, off which there is a spacious bathroom with a large walk in shower, a double ended bath, and counter top basin on a marble topped washstand. Bathrobes are provided so that guests can enjoy lazing around in comfort after a bath or shower using the luxurious Arran gift set of toiletries provided.
A little further along the corridor is the spacious triple room which we keep pet free. Here we provide another zip and link Super King-size bed which can be two 6’6’’ length singles if required. There is also a large 3’6’’ x 6’6’’ single bed ensuring a comfortable night for adults as well as children.
Breakfast is provided in the room and guests can choose from juices, fresh fruit, yogurts and cereals. Freshly baked croissants with a choice of spreads and jams are also delivered at a pre-arranged time. There is a small fridge and tea/coffee making facilities in each room along with an assortment of snacks.
There is a two seater table and chairs in the double room and a three seater table in the triple room. There is also seating on the balcony or if preferred breakfast can be eaten in the pergola area of the garden if the weather permits.
A travel cot and high chair are available.
YOUR HOSTS
We were so lucky to discover Burnmouth and retired here in 2011. We love living here at Creel Cottage which was built in the 1950s for a local fisherman’s family. In the years we’ve been here we have updated it whilst still retaining the 1950s charm that first attracted us. We have had the bug of renovating houses since we were newlyweds and retirement certainly didn’t curb our enthusiasm.
It’s a beautiful area to live especially as Ian likes walking and cycling and I love beach walks. We have been hosting family and friends for years and have always enjoyed welcoming guests into our home. In 2021 we decided that we would make some final refinements to the house and start welcoming paying guests too. Mindful of the conditions imposed by the pandemic we created a delightful suite of self contained bed and breakfast accommodation with it’s own separate entrance.
We are delighted with the result – and our guests have been too!
Please feel free to get in touch to discuss your requirements.
Happy Holiday
