Auld Post Office Bed & Breakfast
Bed and Breakfast and a Jaunt with Gin! A warm Highland welcome awaits you at The Auld Post Office B & B. Quietly situated on the A9 route north, just a ten minute drive before reaching Thurso and fifteen minutes from Wick. The Auld Post Office is licensed to serve alcohol, with a collection of more than 100 Scottish Gins in house, there's a Gin Flavour Favourite for everyone! Garnishes are readily available from the herb garden.
The Auld Post Office is a relaxed and friendly B&B nestled on the edge of woodland, a peaceful haven in which to relax and unwind and perfectly situated for a tour of the Northern Highlands, famed for its dramatic and rugged coastline, sandy beaches, shimmering lochs and heather moorland. The area is rich too in archaeological remains with some of the best surviving brochs and chambered cairns. The sweeping coastline from Dunnet Head, the most northerly headland to the great sea stacks at Duncansby, are a bird watcher's paradise.
There are two ensuite guest rooms, each has French doors inviting you to the patio and gardens beyond. The guest rooms are decorated in a blend of Art Deco and contemporary styles.
A leisurely, locally sourced hearty breakfast is served in the dining room with distant views across the moors. Delicious eggs are from the rare breed hens in the secluded gardens. A haven for wildlife where the planting has been carefully chosen to encourage birds, bees and butterflies.
Quality restaurants are just a short drive to both Halkirk and Watten, (5 minutes by car) as well as numerous bars and restaurants in Thurso and Wick. We are happy to make a reservation for you.
Visit the Castle and Gardens at Mey, the RSPB Reserve at Dunnet Head, the most northerly tip of mainland UK, the giant sea stacks at Duncansby Head. Caithness has 8 Lighthouses and more than 25 harbours on its rugged coastline, with many castle ruins, sea arches, sea bird colonies and beautiful white sandy beaches. If time allows, explore the Sonnet in the Sea it's almost a secret, the beautiful secluded beach at Peedie Sands or the Fairy Glen at Latheron. Take an unforgettable Day Trip to the beautiful Orkney Islands, leaves daily from John O'Groats.
Whatever your plans are for the day, our promise to you is that you will have a quiet and comfortable stay in our Highland B & B.
We are proud to be members of Scotland's Best B & B's, and very much look forward to the opportunity to welcome you to our home.
