Isles of Skye and Mull & Iona self drive holiday

This wonderfully scenic self drive tour can be taken in either direction, visiting the Isle of Skye first and then the Island of Mull, or vice versa. Can start any day.

We suggest 3 nights in each island but this can be tailored to suit your preferences and time available. Or, if you wish a short break in just one island, this is possible too.

There is a good choice of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs.

You can also visit the Isle of Raasay when in Skye, and the island of Iona when in Mull.

Days 1-3 - enjoy 2-3 days (3 nights) in Skye.

Travel over the Skye bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh for 3 nights in Skye. With its spectacular Cuillin Mountains, Skye is a magical island with marvellous walking, wonderful boat trips (Loch Coruisk is a highlight), castles including Armadale Castle, Gardens & Museum of the Isles in the south and Dunvegan Castle in the north (with boat trips to see the seal colony), Talisker whisky distillery and heritage museums.

Day 4 - the "Road between the Isles"

Join the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry from Armadale in the south of Skye across to the fishing village of Mallaig (6-10 sailings a day which take around 35-45 minutes). A scenic day passing by Morar and Arisaig, through Moidart and on to Kilchoan for the ferry ride to Tobermory on Mull (5-7 ferries a day which take 35 minutes).

Days 4-6 - enjoy 2-3 days (3 nights) in Mull.

There are whale watching trips, you can visit the Island of Iona and its Abbey, take a boat trip to Staffa or Ulva, visit the Tobermory whisky distillery, explore Duart Castle and keep your eye out for sea eagles.

Day 7 - ferry.

You leave Mull on the ferry from Craignure on Mull (sailings every 1-2 hours or so) which take about 55 minutes to sail to Oban where this lovely self drive holiday ends.
