Highland Golf Tour
If you are considering a golf vacation in the highlands, we have put together an idea for a Highland Golf Tour. Included are Royal Dornoch, Brora, Tain, Fortrose and Rosemarkie, Castle Stuart and Nairn. You can stay in 5 Star accommodation at the Ro
Brora
Brora is one of the most northern golf courses in Scotland, often referred to as a "Hidden Gem". It is located on the east cost of Sutherland just 20 miles north of its much more famous neighbour, Royal Dornoch. The drive across the Black Isle from Inverness is very scenic and the roads are normally very quiet. Brora Golf Club is the most northerly golf memorial to James Braid who redesigned the course in 1923, Although measuring only 6156 yards from the Medal Tees, the gorse bushes, burns, out of bounds includeing the railway line combine to make it a very tough Par 69.
Castle Stuart
Opened to critical acclaim in the summer of 2009, Castle Stuart has quickly become one of the top golf courses in Scotland. The resort was developed by Mark Parsinan who also created Kingsbarns near St Andrews. Lying on the south shore of the beautiful Moray Firth between Inverness and Nairn, the course has very quickly became one of the outstanding courses in Scotland. Proof of it stature was shown by being selected to host the Scottish Open in 2011, 12 and 13 and 16. Commanding a breathtaking coastal position and the course has been built on three tiers to ensure that golfers rarely lose sight of the dramatic views over the Moray Firth toward the Black Isle.
Fortrose & Rosemarkie
Formed in 1888, but with documentation of golf having been played over Chanonry as early as 1702. Lying just north of Inverness on the Black Isle, Fortrose sits on a narrow stretch of land on the Chanonry peninsula. Fortrose was redesigned by 5 time Open Champion James Braid in 1932. Although a short track, what the course lacks in length is made up by small greens and strategically placed bunkers. When the wind blows which is very common when playing links golf in Scotland, it is a greta test of golf.
Nairn
Nestling on the southern shores of the Moray Firth, Nairn is one of the most popular golf courses in Scotland. It regularly ranks aeound the top 10 of the top 100 golf courses in Scotland. Nairn Golf Club was founded in 1887 and has hosted a large number of important championships and the Walker Cup matches. A remarkable feature of Nairn is that you have views of the Moray Firth and the golden colouring and changing lights of the Black Isle from every hole. The sea also comes into play on every one of the first seven holes. What delights the visitor and member alike is the Scottish-ness of the links.
Royal Dornoch
Royal Dornoch is one of the most famous in Scotland and can be found some 45 miles north of Inverness on the east coast of Sutherland. Part of Royal Dornochs charm is that is in a timeless setting. With the pure white sand of the beach separating it from the Dornoch Firth, its raised greens require precise approach play. Over the years it has quite rightly gained a reputation as one of the best golf courses in Scotland. This is confirmed by the large number (over 200) of overseas members, many from the USA.
Tain
Tain golf course may arguably have one of the best settings in all of Scotland, overlooking the Dornoch Firth with the sea on one side and the backdrop of the mountains on the other. Located in the |ounty of Ross-shire, Tain is only 9 miles south of Dornoch and 34 miles north of Inverness. Designed by Tom Morris in 1889, it opened in 1890 with 15 holes. In 1894 additional land was acquired and the course extended to 18 holes.
