From Inverness Castle to the Castle of Mey

A tour of the eastern seaboard from Inverness to Caithness, the most northerly county in the United Kingdom, through iconic castles.

Inverness Castle is the latest attraction in the capital of the Highlands of Scotland. You can start your tour here and meander up the A9 to Dornoch, Keiss, Girnigoe and Sinigoe, and the iconic Castle of Mey.

Two of the castles are fascinating ruins. They are all great places to get out and walk and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the north while soaking up the culture and heritage of the north of Scotland. The Castle of Mey are currently assisting with improving access around the castle, which is on the burgeoning North Highland Way which goes from John o Groats to Durness. This is planned to be a multi use route in the long term. The price does not include entry to the Castle of Mey or Dornoch castle. Drop in at the North Coast Visitor Centre. The exhibitions include the history of the north with other great places to see. This is a museum. Entry is free, but donations are encouraged.

Friends of the North Highland Way

Enjoy a great day out exploring the north coast of Scotland on foot, mountain bike or on horseback. We can provide a passport to check into the churches along the route and help with great wildlife watching spots. There are in fact two routes, one along the coast and the other over A'Mhoine.

Horaires d'ouverture

This is self guided, so no opening times, but you will need to check the opening times of the various churches as they change constantly.
