The world famous Rosslyn Chapel dates from 1446 and has very strong connections to the Knights Templar. It is believed to be a possible location for the Holy Grail and is still used as a place of worship today. The chapel is full of ornate carvings which tell different biblical and other stories. It also featured prominently in the Dan Brown novel and Tom Hanks film, The Davinci Code.
The village of Temple takes its name from the Knights Templar of the middle ages. The ruins of Temple church date from the 1300s and its graveyard has some fascinating ancient gravestones.
Peebles on the banks of the picturesque River Tweed is where we stop for lunch. Peebles is a bustling market town, famous for its once temperance spa hotel and birth place of author and former Governor General of Canada, Sir John Buchan.
Drive through lush Borders countryside seeing Galashiels once part of the thriving Borders textile industry and the ancient royal burgh of Lauder with its fine 18th century buildings.
Sample the water of life after a tour of the famous Glenkinchie Distillery. Founded in 1837 and known as the ‘Edinburgh Malt’ you will see how malt whisky is fermented, distilled and matured.
This is a full day tour with lunch at a variety of locations in Peebles. Contact us for more information.
