Isle of Arran (Mogabout - Arran Safari - Double Dram Whisky Distillery Tour)
If you like a dram, make it a double - with our two distillery tour.
This Vip Tour takes in Lagg Distillery in the south and Lochranza Distillery in the north of the island. Compare notes on the two as we travel between, taking in Arran's historical sights, geography and ecology. Our knowledgeable guide will fascinate you with tales of the island's Whisky history and folklore.
Lochranza Distillery:
Picturesque Lochranza, situated at the north of the Isle of Arran, has been the location of the island’s first legal distillery for over 150 years. Until the 19th century, Arran was renowned for its Malt Whisky, often made illicitly, and known locally as "Arran Water". Lochranza is home to the purest water in Scotland – it's been cleansed by granite and softened by peat as it meanders from the mountain tops into nearby Loch na Davie. Arran enjoys a warm microclimate – the atmosphere of sea breezes and clear mountain air, together with the warm flow of the Gulf Stream it is ideal for the speedy maturation of single malts. The island has a reputation for producing the highest quality whisky.
Lagg Distillery:
Lagg is one of Scotland's newest distilleries built by the Isle of Arran Distillers Ltd on the edge of the village of Lagg on the southern tip of the Island. This area was a hotbed of whisky production, both legal and illicit during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The Lagg Single Malt will be heavily-peated in a style reminiscent of the original Arran whiskies and quite distinctive from The Arran Malt produced at the Lochranza Distillery in the North of the Island. Under the watchful eyes of the Distillery Manager Graham Omand, and Master Distiller James MacTaggart, the spirit produced at Lagg Distillery is expected to mature into a rich, earthy and memorable Single Malt Scotch Whisky.
